Discovering distress oxides

I made this card for some special friends. I have been watching some Youtube tutorials of Card-io stamps and looking at ideas on Pinterest. I decided to buy Chipped Sapphire distress oxide to try. I love it as I achieved just the look I wanted on this card. I used it for the sky and the snowdrifts. I also discovered that using torn paper is better than using a mask as it is easier to stamp right to the snow line. I have now bought some blending brushes and another colour distress oxide to try some blending,

I am so pleased with the way this turned out. Sometimes I have a design in mind and the card ends up nothing like I envisaged but this turned out just as I imagined. All the stamps are Card-io and I used liquid pearls for the berries, a white gel pen and glitter.

Such a sweet scene Marianne. Oxides are the best, I much prefer them to regular DI's now.

Oh just love this gorgeous card Marianne, your sky is fabulous and I love that little lone deer amidst all the snow.
I've never got along all that well with DI, and I've tried every blender going. I much prefer the Oxides too, keep safe, Kate x

It's a beautiful card Marianne. Love the design. I was lucky enough to be a tutor in 2 Craft Shops, so had the use of all the new products as they came in the stores. I even use Distress Inks as water colours and have drawers full of most of the colours. I would recommend them to any one. Also using them with a blending brushes, Glycerine can help to get a smooth finish, depending on the card you are using. Hugs, Carol S.xxx

Gorgeous card Marianne .. your DO sky has turned out perfectly. Enjoy discovering DO’s … I have discovered them myself for the first time this autumn having returned to crafting and I am hooked. My favourite colour combos for skies are Chipped Sapphire / Villainous Potion / Kirsch Flamingo, Chipped Sapphire / Salty Ocean / Tumbled Glass, or Stormy Sky / Tumbled Glass. I also love Stormy Sky for snowdrifts, either alone or blended out from Chipped Sapphire.

I know what you mean about masks … acetate masks are too thick for you to be able to stamp right up to the edge. I have found with paper masks though that they tear part way through and/or get so inky that it starts to get onto the fingers and then into the card where it shouldn’t. (Perhaps that’s just me!!). My solution to this has been to use acetate masks to ink my hills, but then to tear a bit of paper to place over the bit of the line I want to mask when stamping … I have found it works well even though the shape isn’t perfect (occasionally I have actually drawn round my hill mask and cut it out on paper for stamping larger areas!)
