Snowflakes and Crafting Resolutions

White Christmasses seem to only happen on TV and in films nowadays sadly. I know some people had some snow late on Boxing Day but we just had pouring rain that evening. So onto my card using the groegous Tim Holtz snowflake die and embossing folder I bought at the NEC. I am definitely going to be using this more next year. The paper is First Edition Gilded Winter, sentiment LOTV and the border die is Memory Box.

Now I don't really make New Year's Resolutions but I thought I would make some crafting ones.

1  Use some of my older stamps, buy less new ones.
2  Do more scrapbooking
3  Indulge myself in colouring sessions so that I have some coloured images ready to make cards
4  Keep using up all my old papers. I have been doing well with that this year
5  Keep making Christmas cards all year
6  Batch make some cards especially for selling
7  Make more cards using dies and no image
8  Try more cas cards ( not as easy as they look)
9  Experiment more
10 Do more embossing, dry and heat
11 Use things I haven't used for a long time, like some of my punches
12  Schedule more blog posts ahead once the cards have been made.

So they are mine, care to share yours?

More snowmen

Just as you thought you were safe from Christmas cards up pop these fab snowmen from Pink Gem. You get the uncoloured and the coloured digi. I chose to use the precoloured for a quicker card this time.

Best Wishes

I hadn't realised this Woodware stamp was quite so big when I bought it but it is rather gorgeous and looks great either paper pieced or coloured with Copics as I have done on this one.  I haven't made many of this shape card which I shall be rectifying I think as I really like it.

The papers are Crafter's Companion Scruffy little cat and I had fun making the fishtail circle with a doily on top. I added a diecut circle to write on. I know my friend has opened her card so I can share this you now.

Reindeer

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas. We had a lovely time Christmas Eve meeting up with friends, great carol concert and then a little shopping. I got some trousers in Laura Ashley's sale and a pair of long black boots in Jones's footwear sale. I had some lovely pressies including some Go Kreate frilly square dies I have been trying to get for ages.

Another Christmas card to share with you today. I do love this style of card and reindeer have been really popular this Christmas. I used Dovecraft krafty Christmas paper with a Curiosity Corner doily, Craftwork Cards tag and sentiment and a Tim Holtz diecut reindeer.  I used DI vintage photo, some red ribbon and pearls and a white gel pen on the deer.

Well I got back in the craftroom for a short while yesterday mainly to schedule some posts and do a little colouring. We are out with friends for lunch today and tomorrow we are venturing to the shops for a while so it will  be Tuesday before I really have a lot of time for crafting unless something else crops up of course. I want to share this picture with you. My good friend Lynsey bought me this personalised ceramic sign for Christmas and I am absolutely thrilled with it.

Another calendar

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas, so time to get back to normal blog posts. I think this is my favourite of all the calendars I made this year. I love the Inkylicious sentiment so much that you will be seeing it again soon I am sure. The papers and doily are Dovecraft Curiosity Corner and I added a calendar tab, lace and hearts from Hobbycraft. I wish I had bought more of these as they sold out quickly and not sure why they thought they were a Christmas embellishment! I love the different textures of the wood, burlap and button.

5 Favourite Christmas cards of 2014

Every year I play along with Debby's 5 favourite Christmas card of the year and every year I deliberate which to choose. Although Debby will allow a bit more than 5 I did manage to narrow my choice down to just 5 and that was tough.

I am showing them in date order as I couldn't possible rank them.

I love Sugar Nellie as you know and was thrilled to join The Sugar Bowl DT for 4 months. Time will tell if my time there is extended. I also love these deep pinks and have used them on several cards this year. The LOTV sentiment on kraft is also a favourite of mine.

This is the card I sent to Debby as she is a huge Penny Black fan and I loved the way this card turned out. I love the soft colour and oops, there's that sentiment again I have just realised.

I was so pleased to be asked to join the Little Claire DT in January. This came as a complete surprise and this is my favourite of the stamps I have used this year. Such a fun image and I love red, white and blue cards. Gorgeous ribbon from Crafty Ribbons too.

I do like making cards without images and this year have discovered some wonderful sentiments to use as the main focus. I have always wanted to design for magazines and this year I have been lucky enough to contribute to Making Cards and Cardmaking and Papercraft online. This is one of a set of 5 I made for CM&PC and my favourite. I love using banners, burlap and wooden embellishments.

Lastly my hubby's card which he loves. I could have chosen so many LOTV cards I made this year but made myself choose just one so it had to be this one. It has my favourite Christmas tree dies, glitter, penguins and a snowman.

So hope you will play along. It isn't easy I can tell you. I could have chosen far far more and another day my choices may have been different. I tried to choose a range, not just one company or all snowmen for example. Thanks Debby for a fun challenge.

Christmas Carol

Christmas Eve once again, one of my favourite days of the year. We will be out early this morning for breakfast and then we are going to a carol concert in one of the large churches in the middle of Norwich. It is a fun service and features the pantomime cast. We went last year for the first time and loved it. Really set the festive mood. Just a couple of fresh foodstuffs to buy and then back home, probably to watch a festive film.

So onto my card which was my last Christmas card I made as we had a meal out with them on Monday. The couple have 3 daughters who all sing and dance so when I saw this image from All Dressed Up I had to get it. I coloured it in the girls' favourite colours, with Copics of course. The papers are MME Merry and the gorgeous little hat and mittens are Joy dies from Noor Designs UK. You can't really see the embossing on them on this card but the dies emboss at the same time as they cut, rather than having to run them through again with the embossing shim.

Here are the girls in more detail and the lovely sparkly glitter shows up well for a change.

Not a Christmas Card!

Time for another challenge at The Sugar Bowl. Yes we are 2 days early this month as we didn't want the challenge to start on Christmas Day. You will all be too busy to check out the challenge I think. Our theme is anything goes with a Sugar Nellie stamp and I decided to make a Birthday card this month. Sadly this is my last card of the 4 month term, which has flown by. I have applied again for a further 4 months so fingers crossed. If not I will enjoy playing in the challenges.

Christmas wreath from Balsam Hill

I had a lovely surprise email from Balsam Hill  asking if I would like to receive a 24" Norway Spruce Christmas Wreath in exchange for a review on my blog. I was delighted and of course said yes. This is the wreath once we had decorated it with a large gold bow, small orange baubles and gold parcels. We tied them on using green garden wire so that the fixings don't show.

This is the wreath before we decorated it. As you can see it is beautiful quality and much thicker than any others I have seen for sale. It is suitable for indoor or outdoor use too. The lights are battery powered and the power block is easily hidden underneath the wreath whilst still being easily accessible. It comes with 6 spare bulbs and a tool for changing them so it should last for many years.

Here it is in our dining room in place of one of the pictures that usually hangs there. We don't use the main light when we eat, just a lamp so having the wreath lit too is really lovely and festive.

Once lit it stays on for 6 hours and then goes off for 18 hours unless you manually switch it off. I absolutely love it and am very lucky to have it. They have a sale on at the moment so hop over to their website and check out all the other lovely goodies for sale especially the Christmas trees, which I would love to have.

Looking forward to visiting my good friend Lynsey and her family today and going out for lunch.

Hubby's Christmas card

One for the postie

I love this traditional scene from Delicious Doodles and I wanted to make a card for our postie as he is very good, even leaving parcels with our friends across the road for us if we are out. I love just colouring the postbox and the front door with Copics. The papers are Papermania Home for Christmas and I added some ribbon from Crafty Ribbons and a postbox topper from Hobbycraft.

This is my inspiration card for today's 12 days of Christmas post at Crafty Ribbons Inspiration Blog. Today's prize is a massive £15 voucher to spend at Crafty Ribbons so hop over, check out the DT inspiration and enter your name, as simple as that.

on the 6th day of Christmas

Yes we are up to the 6th day of Christmas at the Crafty Ribbons Inspiration Blog 12 days of Christmas. The papers are Echo Park Keepin' Cozy and the ribbon is Crafty Ribbons Vintage Christmas Past Holly Basket. Just 3 Christmas cards left to make now, hoping to get those made today. My Mum suddenly asked me to make three so that is why I still have some to make.

Special card

New challenge time at Little Claire and we are looking for a special Christmas card. I had an order for 2 cards and had limited time to make them so using one of the precoloured toppers from Little Claire was ideal and I really love how the card turned out. The papers are First Edition Vintage Noel and the ribbon is from Crafty Ribbons.I used my corner rounder punch for a change, should use that more often as I love the effect. I added some scrabble letters and a wooden tree from Hobbycraft. Here is the fabulous prize on offer which includes one of my favourite stamps from the latets Christmas release.

Ready for the weather

Today is my turn to post a project on the Little Claire blog and I chose to use the dinkie wellies stamp to show that you can use the dinkie stamps on a 6x6 card. They have been coloured with Copics and I added some faux stitching with a fineliner pen. The paper pieced umbrellas were die cut with a Memory Box die.  Don't forget Little Claire have a massive 25% sale on everything until 14th December so you could buy this stamp for just £1.50!

Some more exciting news is that on 15th December Little Claire will be looking for DT members for a new Digi DT so if you would like to join this lovely friendly business then check the blog on Monday for details. This will be a separate team to the current rubber stamp team.

A sale, 12 days of Christmas and blogger!

An extra post from me again today, please scroll down for my card.

So firstly I want to tell you about a fabulous sale at Little Claire
25% off
What a fabulous offer, and that is off everything in store.
Just quote DD2514 at checkout.

Secondly over at Crafty Ribbons Inspiration Blog we will be inviting you to play along with the 12 days of Christmas. We have some wonderful sponsors lined up as well as prizes from Crafty Ribbons of course. The fun starts on Saturday 13th December and there will be inspiration from the DT every day and a chance for you to win every day too.

So grab the badge (there is a sidebar sized one in my sidebar) and link it to the inspiration blog.

Lastly an update on commenting. I have reverted back to a pop up box as you can comment without filling in the numbers on the word verification box which Blogger has decided to add to everyone's blog despite it being turned off. I am assuming this will be corrected at some stage. I much prefer pop up boxes for commenting and it appears many of you do too.

Winter White

We had the first of our Christmas meals out with friends last night so apologies that I wasn't home to comment. Photographing white cards is never easy and with the awful light at this time of the year it becomes even more of a challenge but I am impressed with how much the sparkle shows up though it does look gold and white but the card is actually all white. This was an ordered card after my friend saw a previous white on white card I made. I used some snowflake embossed card, pearl spray from Wild Orchid, Marianne poinsettia dies and Woodware holly leaves. I also embossed some of the holly leaves, thanks Coops for that idea. The sentiment was made with the new Sizzix Tim Holtz dies and thank goodness for Stick It making it so easy to stick them down.

Commenting

Please scroll down for today's card. Apparently Blogger is playing up again and although word verification is switched off, if like me, you have a pop up box for comments, it has switched it on word verification. It seems the way around it is to change the setting for comments to embedded. I much prefer a pop up box but I don't want word verification on my blog as nobody has the time for that and it is such a nuisance.

Hopefully it will sort itself out at some point and I can change back to a pop up box.

Winter Wedding

I made this card for an order and used the Inkylicious sentiment again but this time with a new Spellbinders die I bought at the NEC. I printed the sentiment and cut that with one of the smaller dies. Do you find you use the larger dies far more than the small ones? The edges were distressed with DI tattered Rose.  The paper is Santoro and I added some gauze, vintage lace from Crafty Ribbons, Charm from The Ribbon Girl and cherry blossom and roses.

Happy Hanukkah

A first for me, a Happy Hanukkah card which I made for Cardmaking and Papercraft online magazine. I don't know much about Hanukkah other than it is called The Festival of Light and they light a menorah so I set about finding a suitable image. This is Max with Menorah from Mo Manning. Yet another snowman!

Great craft fair yesterday. It started slowly but by lunchtime sales were picking up and my last customer made my day buying 9 cards and one of my decorated boxes. I was so pleased to sell both boxes and a picture as well as lots of cards, noteholders, money wallets etc. I have some orders to complete this weekend and plan to get my cards written tomorrow. So time for our last challenge of the year at A Gem of a Challenge and it is a nice easy one which will last for a month, anything Christmas. All of the DT have been playing along for this one as it is our last challenge. We hope to see a lot of entries this month but just to let you know the DT won't be commenting on this one.

This evening we are going to Cafe Rouge for a meal and to the theatre to see The Full Monty which should be fun.

Modern colours for a traditional scene

I really love this stamp from Stamposaurus and decided to go for a clean and simple look with modern colours. The image has been coloured with Copics with added sparkle from Sakura pens. Mono Christmas

We had a lovely day yesterday. I bought a retro 60's style coat which was half price, we had lunch at Bella Italia, 2 for £10 and finished the Christmas shopping. I did sneak in some crafting when I got home too and finished off with a brilliant episode of The Apprentice. So onto my card today. A new challenge today at Crafty Ribbons and our theme is Mono Christmas. I really love the new black and white range of ribbons so I decided to go for a white on white card mounted on black card. I used some embossed snowflake card I bought at the NEC with various dies. The snowflakes are Joy, birch trees and cardinals IO and the deer are MB.

Thanks to everyone who entered my candy and hello to my new followers, I hope you continue to follow me and enjoy my blog.

So the lucky winner is......

That's you, Lorraine aka Rainey's Craft Room. Please email me so I can get your prize to you.

You're bloomin' marvellous

The first of the month means a new club stamp set for Little Claire and this set is called Men of My Dreams. There is a knight, handyman and gardener. Each one comes with an appropriate sentiment too. These will be great for Birthdays, Valentines, Father's Day and Anniversaries so I can see a lot of uses for this set.
Image and sentiment - Little Claire
Medium - Copics
Papers - from my scrap pile
Dies - Doohickey fence, Memory Box birds, Spelbinders circle
